Quite literally one of the most liberating things!! You end up looking at most pieces of clothing online and saying to yourself "I can make that", and then BAM you've made it on your sewing machine and have a new piece for your closet (while technically getting rid of ur old one!)
It's sustainable and cheaper than thrifting on Depop if you're sewing with clothes that are already in your closet; you can just deconstruct them and use the fabric for whatever your heart desires. I've linked some fun YouTube tutorials for anyone looking to start!

It is such a fun little experience!! sewing patches onto bags and clothes, turning pants into shorts, cutting up old t-shirts. I love upcycling clothes I once loved and it makes me re fall in love with them! I am so tired of overconsumption, learn to create it saves you money while giving you a fun project!!!!

dyed some clothes, sewed new buttons on others. I’m frequenting the the cobbler, I’m seeing a seamstress to turn dresses into skirts. I’m sewing up holes and not caring if it’s wonky. I’ve always been a knitter but seeing all of my clothes as a hobby feels like a continuation of that. Your wardrobe can be made exactly how you want it without buying anything new!

fast fashion is a blight upon the planet!!!! i reckon that mending & making ur own stuff is one of the most ethical and sustainable things you can do. and it’s honestly so cheap compared to buying new stuff, particularly if you can find 2nd hand materials. & it also just feels very satisfying and nourishing!! & what an incredible outlet for self expression wow…. i made some ridiculous pants out of a bizarrely shaped pillow case i found in an op shop the other day, which i have worn so many times already, and i’m making my own curtains too……. very excited

I have to disagree with the people who say that we need to “stay” and “fight“ for IG to be a better platform because in actuality, it’s our presence and engagement that gives them data, and therefore money. As long as they have those 2 things, they make their bottom line and won’t really care about its users desires unless they’re making a move for the optics.
If we REALLY want to hold them accountable, we need to impact the money they make, which means permanently deleting or marking your account as inactive & never coming back. They’ll only care if they’re bleeding money— so make them bleed.

Every piece I wear has some sort of sentimental story backed behind it (my bracelets/rings/necklaces/some of my earrings). For me, wearing sentimental jewelry serves 3 purposes:
1) Bringing life to pieces that have been given to me with love
2) Carrying my loved ones wherever I go
3) Prevented me from making impulsive jewelry purchases (because fast fashion jewelry doesn't feel the same way a gift does)
Ig the only exceptions I make in fast fashion jewelry is earrings, but only bc I need boring earrings for corporate-wear lol
