I've been researching purchasing a dumb phone on and off for about a year and have realized that, even if we don't want to be, there are so many things that require us to have a phone nowadays - whether it be for work, school, or going out, a phone is required almost everywhere. if you are really struggling with phone addiction, delete all the social media apps off of your phone (keep the accounts you have for now) and whittle down your apps to the absolute basics. for me, I just have Spotify, my navigation app, and my school/work/banking necessities. you are able to redownload apps or look websites up online, but you also need to put the commitment in yourself. I've been starting to use my phone less and less (average screen time is around five hours) but I also know that I still have work to do. if you want any more useful tips let me know!

crazy talk from me, idc. i've been slowly weening off my social media consumption, but it's not been enough!! some things i've done to combat it have helped slightly, but i realize the only way to really get free of it is just cut it. i've seen a lot of people talking about "dumbing down" their phones/tech to only house the essentials. there are apps for iOS and Android that make things like that possible. also like.. i think they make dumb phones from factory, but i'll have to dig deeper for that. it's gonna be painful the first period of time, but it's worth it. even the little bit i've done has cut some really strong ties to my phone. i really depend only on apps that have messaging (discord, iMessage, FB messenger [not as much]). However, sometimes i get sucked down a rabbit hole if i get sidetracked. i see a lot of people comparing doomscrolling to an addiction and they couldn't be more right. bc it is an addiction. it's a trap. only way to really get out of it is to shut it off completely.

This obviously works just as well with your current phone but if you are getting a new phone anyways I recommend you to start out fresh with a minimal amount of apps and no social media. My old phone was 5 years old and slowly dying so I thought what better way to get away from social medias than starting on a clean slate

This video just reminded me that I really need to beat my phone addiction. Saw arbys_rising recommend 'the brick' to turn your smartphone into a dumbphone but unfortunately it doesn't work for androids (yet) and also is kinda expensive. Consider this also an ask, any tips on dumbing down my phone without deleting everything? (Id still like to go & post on Instagram every now and again etc)
