Summoning all New York Piffies - the Climate Change Superfund Act is on Governor Hochul's desk, and we need to pressure her to sign it! Click the link for an email template that will take less than a minute to send :-) This is climate attribution legislation that will make fossil fuel corporations responsible for funding infrastructure projects in New York, allowing our communities to avoid, moderate, repair, and adapt (in that particular order) to the impacts of the climate crisis. These projects will take shape in a variety of forms, from coastal wetland rehabilitation, storm drainage systems, and more resilient public transportation networks to medical care to treat injury or illness caused by the climate crisis and more. It's a groundbreaking extension of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) which made corporations responsible for the cleanup of superfund sites contaminated with toxic waste. Aaaand just in case she doesn't sign it, there is a sit in being planned for December 10th at her office in Albany!

NY Piffies! Senate Bill S2513 (also known as Cecilia’s Act, in remembrance of the sex work and trans rights activist Cecilia Gentili) is in the committee process! Showing your support now makes it more likely the bill will be reported to the full senate for consideration! A similar bill introduced a few years ago did not make it past this stage. If it ultimately passes, sex work between consenting adults will be decriminalized. This not only gives current sex workers avenues to exercise their rights to health and safety, but will also clear the criminal records of people who have been convicted under statutes repealed by the bill. There is apparently going to be yet another mass layoff to the National Park Service workforce and which will cut or impact over 800 programs. The Resistance Rangers is a great website that shares news about things the government is doing that impact the parks, creates calls-to-action including having easy to copy, paste, and customize emails to send to different officials or letters to sign, and they also archive stories/pages that are being censored by the government. I’m going to link the most recent post for what you can do with the copy/paste email section if anyone wants to take a minute to read. Edit to add: there are also super easy petitions to sign, and more creative things you can do like giving you postcard prompt ideas and who to send them to. So much information available on the site! I highly recommend checking the site out!
