tom petty is probably the most famous person from gainesville, i’ve gotta mention him. but i think linda lyndell has one of the most interesting stories out of all of gnv music history. she was a soul artist in the ’60s and recorded “What A Man,” which was sampled by Salt N Pepa. i was lucky enough to get to interview her for a article i‘m writing for one of my journalism classes, as she is notoriously private. but i love that song and she was so amazing to talk to!!

i have been dealing with “I listened to this before it was cool” feelings lately. with the selena gomez rumored biopic and all. But this app feels like the place to admit that Love Linda and Different Drum is the first album I really listened to and still blast over & over & over again

have loved her, and especially the self-titled album (1979) since I was a kid. I love the upbeat tracks especially: Chuck E’s in Love, Easy Money, Danny’s All-Star Joint. she was dating Tom Waits around this time, and i definitely get hints of his influence in her lyrics.

not liking nickelback doesn’t make you cool. screaming the lyrics to San Quentin and Animals is a healing experience, i feel like a fiend as i pelt my lungs out in the car Skinny Little Missy also deserves an honourable mention
