I grew up without a Christmas tree my whole life and never understood the hype. Ever since last year, my mom started putting up a tree at her house and I decorate it every Thanksgiving. Unlocked my inner child.
bee1000 I think trees are a povely ritual to mark the season and bring light into the dark months. I found it most lovely when living alone too! during the pandemic lockdown here I remember going for an evening walk and seeing peoples trees in their windows and crying because humans want to make things beautiful and bright even when stuck in their houses and no one’s coming over!
there’s something really endearing about getting a brief glimpse at each uniquely decorated tree as you’re driving by. is it a small tree? a big one? do they prefer colourful lights or warm bulbs that look like tiny flickering candles from afar? it’s a short-lived moment, but it’s a nice reminder that we don’t live in complete isolation of one another. even something as simple as putting up and decorating a christmas tree can be a shared experience.
