As a kid, I was always psyched out of my mind for Santa to come and would be giddy with anticipation the night before. Now, as a parent, even though it feels like the prep is never ending and the clock is running out, I was so excited I didn’t know what to do with myself. Being the reason your child’s eyes sparkle is honestly better than any of the past 10 christmases combined.

Sneakily buying gifts Secretly wrapping them Hiding them in inconspicuous places Quietly arranging them under the tree Silently stuffing the stockings I’m giddy!!!!!

around 11:45 on christmas eve, my family would gather all the kids around the christmas tree and tell them Santa was coming to the house. we would play youtube videos of reindeer walking and play them on the speaker to make it more authenti. then, my tio would walk down the stairs in a full Santa costume and take pictures with everyone. Then he’d change back and act like nothing happened. it was the best!!

When I was a kid, we'd always open family gifts on Christmas Eve. We've adapted that tradition now that we are all adults into Secret Santa. I have 5 siblings, three of us are married, and my mom joins. None of us have the cash money to be buying everyone gifts, so for the past decade we've just done SS. Since we're never all together on the holiday anymore, we do a group facetime to open the gifts. I love gift giving and the challenge of finding the perfect gift for someone. The surprise element makes it even more special! I used to do "clues" before the actual reveal, but I was the only one doing it and it was always a give away it was me. It was fun though, maybe I'll start that back up...

You don’t need to suffer to prove that you’re a good person. You don’t have to stay with the job that makes you question yourself and you don’t have to keep dating that person you’re not quite clicking with. If something feels off then it probably is. I’m not advocating for immediately abandoning your responsibilities and throwing caution to the wind; but in our hearts we know when something is working and when it isn’t. That thing called intuition is your soul, and you can trust it.

I’m tired of jumping through hoops and reframing my mounting dread everyday as ā€˜an opportunity to make a changeā€˜. I’m tired of thinking that only if I tried harder, or was better or did something different that I would have a better outcome. At what point do you stop trying to jam the same puzzle piece in the same spot and say, ā€œHmm maybe this doesn’t fit!ā€ Am I quitting trying to be an ever optimizing and improving version of myself? Maybe. OR have I successfully gotten what I wanted out of this experience and can peacefully move on without remorse? I think in 2025 I’m going to start choosing the latter.
