My sibling brought copies of their student newspaper home for the holidays, and it’s been so fun to complete the crosswords by hand! It taps a part of the brain that I so rarely use and gets me to think creatively. One of my goals this year is to have more tactile hobbies, ones based in physical media, and between this, reading, and completing puzzles, I’m spending significantly less time on my phone than usual.
my coworkers and I have started doing crossword puzzles at work when it’s slow. It’s so fun and it feels a lot better than doom scrolling on our phones!! we started with the local newspaper but we‘ve since upgraded to buying this book…
I got into it a few weeks ago and I can’t stop. I feel like that & Sudoku are underrated af (still have to get into sudoku tho). Especially when you want to do smth without your phone in mind 🧍🏾
Play solitaire, buy a book of crosswords of sudoku, write in a notebook, draw, knit, etc. using your hands and doing something screen free is delightful for me it’s crosswords. the fact that it’s not super productive and is just something that my brain enjoys is idk…lovely. I’m not building a streak or tracking this activity anywhere. All I have to show are finished crosswords which themselves are nothing to write home about.
In fact they’re working against you, especially women of colour. 84% of Tinder users are men, Bumble’s earnings have gone down hugely since its IPO (thereby further increasing their need to make a profit off subscriptions), Hinge is hiding hot people behind a paywall. People are sick of getting lovebombed and ghosted. But we don’t need them—there’s more to life than apps—and people are beginning to seek connections in person again.
