it's a spanish film about a tragedy that makes you question your opinions on cannibals/cannibalism :) there was another movie about the same tragedy (alive 1993) but it was a whitewashed retelling of the tragedy of the andes

Unequivocally the most harrowing film I have ever seen and I cannot get it out of my head…. Deeply disturbing , anxiety inducing, compelling, stomach churning. Shot and written with effective precision, without overkill or gratuitous exploitation. Movies about the human will to survive are hard to do without being either corny or played out and this does follow a similar narrative arc but I really appreciated how it was told. I recommend watching the little docu about the making of the film. I love production. Unbelievable true story and really compelling film

saw The Substance last night and would recommend it. it definitely calls back to a number of body and gross out horror films but the climax of the movie owes a lot to Brian Yuzna’s Society. it pushes the boundaries of good taste in order to accentuate the grotesque character of the upper class. if you’re seeing The Substance, watch a palate cleanser (or maybe take a day or two) and then see Society. you won’t regret it.
