january is the month of meditation for me. she may have brought the new year, but nature's expectation is to remain still until the first warm thunderstorm of the year thaws us completely.
january is the breath that fogs the glass, a long exhale of relief after december's bustle. still dark, still cozy, still quiet.
i don't make a new years resolution on january 1st.. it is way too cold out to be carving any ideas into stone. i spend the first month of the year calmly and without expectation, totally in spite of everyone else who thinks it makes sense to begin a new life for myself while the forest surrounding my house still sleeps.
january is for journaling quietly by the candlelight, softly listing wishes to be tended to when the spring comes. when the forest can wake up along with me

I really love how the entirety of Dec 31st, like right up until 11:59:59 PM, feels like I'm holding my breath. Even when I'm just doing mundane things like brushing my teeth when I get up
