I got recommended this song to me on YouTube on Monday and it's been stuck in my head ever since. I was only vaguely familiar with Bobby Charles, I had loved his song 'I Must Be In A Good Place Now' when I heard it in Master of None many years ago. Anyway this song is very catchy, and it has some great dry 70's production.
One of the more underrated Dylan records from an underrated era from him. Some beautiful songwriting of course, but it's worth the listen mostly for the vibes. There's a southwestern country sound in this that makes me feel like I'm pulling into a desert motel in a beat up pickup during a long roadtrip.
Oooweeeeee this one gets me goin!! superior karaoke song and also beautiful tune in and of itself.
I love glen, I recently found a signed cassette tape of Wichita Lineman and I practically jumped for joy in the antique mall!!
The first two lines of the chorus:
'You can never be strong,
You can only be free' Sums up everything great about Robert Pollard's songwriting. Drama, hope and disappointment.
