Just finished this today, so that's my first book of 2025 completed. Mao II was one of the best books I read last year, so naturally I was drawn to his other work. Underworld is incredible, I love how all-encompassing, how human, how unpredictable his work is. The way that the individual segments come together is phenomenal.
Almost assumed that you just forgot to list DeLillo because he goes so well with what else you listed. This book is amazingly relevant all around. I'd also look into A Vist From The Goon Squad
The first two lines of the chorus:
'You can never be strong,
You can only be free' Sums up everything great about Robert Pollard's songwriting. Drama, hope and disappointment.
