okay so maybe u don’t paint anymore. Maybe u stoped playing guitar or whatever. But what about other things:: Do you bake? do you cook for friends? do you plan motives? do you make playlists — actually Do you make lists of any kind? These are All creative acts!! Once you realise this, and you see that you are constantly engaged in acts of creation, the idea of a “lost” creativity starts to feel incorrect, which then makes getting back into more formal creative practices (music art etc) feel much less daunting

Pull a joni mitchell and engage in arts that differ from your primary to inform it at a later time. If you lean more toward visual arts try poetry, song writing, music making, acting/performances for the self, crochet, clay, claymation, videography, sound collection, whistling, discovering new sounds you can make etc. Often when i want to create but i feel tired or uninspired i try to use still life or my surroundings— BUT If thats boring i ask myself a question and let my train of thought ramble -> connecting that rambling to my pen on paper Honestly setting your inner critic to rest and creating things that are imperfect is actually incredible! More often than not letting first drafts be final for a moment allows you to discover what you crave to create.

you gotta work on something everyday. even if you don’t think you’ll ever reveal it to the public. even if it’s not in the medium you typically work in (if you paint, do a pencil drawing or write a poem…if you sculpt try making an abstract pastel drawing…if you write essays try writing a song…so on and so forth). even if it’s !not good! that’s fine. even if you work on a little bit each day that’s okay. you’re still stimulating your brain and when the block is over your mind with be warmed up and ready. this is def something i’ve struggled with recently but making an effort to keep myself active creatively has helped a ton.

Recently, I haven't been feeling inspired to make music or play my instruments, idk why, rough few weeks ig. And as you might have seen, I also haven't been inspired to write some recs. Erich Fromm once wrote that an artist must have knowledge in their field, and that they have to create, despite not having the right tools/object of creation, because if a painter spends years waiting for the perfect muse, when they find it, their skill won't be enough. This was an analogy to love, but I think it also applies as what it is at face value. If you don't create, you won't get to know what you like, to love the world through your art, and even if you find the perfect idea for a song, painting, etc. You might not be able to make it without that knowledge

separate your to do list into what does and doesn’t require a screen, and do those lists separately means you aren’t constantly bouncing between a screen and the material world. Bonus points if your screenless list is completed without any music or podcasts or anything at all. You’re hiding your true power level by blocking all your thinking with consumption!! posting a neoluddite rec on pifyi is basically reaction farming I’ve realised but I’m NOT that cynical I promise
