Sourcing materials From anywhere but the store
This is a pincushion I’m making (it is not done) - I found the hoof in a field in Mongolia with my friend Tergel, and my friend yves, who makes clothes, granted me a scrap of velvet, And a little lover of mine gave me the milagros, And my friend Leo shaved his head, and gave me the hair, so I stuffed it with that. I did get the nails at the hardware store. And now this is not just a weird pincushion, it is a collage of people and places which have been cobbled together into more than the sum of their parts. And it only cost me a couple of dollars for the nails. And it is really strange looking.

funnily enough i’d spend a lot of money on this in a store – granted it would have to be the perfect store to make me believe this is real! its so cool

DIY clearance
I got an ugly cutie backpack for $6 new! YES. YES. I got it bc the handle is made of BIG CHUNKY PINK BEADS. 💖🌷🌸🩷 Since it's "cheap," but decent quality, I felt free to f**k it up. I ripped off the ugly brand plate. Added patches, button pins, the charm off my busted elastic hair tie, etc. Idk how to sew properly (pls forgive me, ancestors 🥹), but it's functional! :3

Mending night
A nice little venue hosts this once a month. People come with their clothes, help each other sew stuff, get a little cocktail. I thrifted this lovely cardigan 12+ years ago, and sadly 5 of 8 buttons had detached. I kept them for many years and tonight the piece was finally restored with some help from a pro-sewer (3 buttons) and my own efforts (2 buttons).
