If you live in a city with a least one university with an art program don't miss the exhibitions featuring student work.
If I'm visiting a new place I usually look if one of these are taking place, it's a great way to be introduced to local artists. Featured work: Celeida (2024) by Isabelle Ribeiro.
wow, this is great advice. I'm an art university student myself, it's all the more exciting to sync with art school exhibitions when traveling to another city or country.
klorka and it really started with a coincidence when I was traveling and visited a gallery at random that was hosting one, it was so amazing and I felt a deeper understanding of the city through the artists interpretation, that it later became a habit to go.
i go to a university where the art program is just insanely talented and huge and yesterday we went to a student’s mfa thesis exhibition and it was beautiful. i love art so fkin much AND great way to support small artists
go to community-focused galleries/film festivals/poetry readings/etc in your area and see what people are doing you'll meet other like-minded people, you'll be inspired but less intimidated bc you met the real human person behind the work, or you'll see some stuff you think is really shitty and you'll be inspired to prove yourself by making something better it's all a win-win AND you'll be supporting local artists
One of the things I like the most about Pi.fyi and the current scale of users is that it's still noticeable when a rec was inspired by another.
Sometimes the rec directly mentions the other, but other times you can kinda assume that reading an especific thing here triggered a memory or an ideia.
It's very cute and interesting to notice the small influences interacting with other humans online can have.
I know there are days when you are so tired, or maybe you made a big meal for friends and family or you spent the afternoon meal prepping and now you have to clean like five pots and a tray, but be brave!!! (my inner monologue) Don't force your future self to wake up to a bunch of dirty dishes. It will keep your mind full because you will be constantly reminding yourself to clean that up.
