My go to for just a simple one question is if you were a bird what bird would you be. It’s really specific so it gives a clear topic to talk about but it’s still fun. Its also a good way to get to know someone by having them talk about themselves without putting them super on the spot. I think any question like this is more interesting than a ā€œwhat do you do?ā€

Easy, a pigeon. I think I’ve seen a pigeon about everywhere I have ever been. At the beach, in the city, in the middle of nowhere. Those things are everywhere! I want to travel as far and as wide as a pigeon does

Really great question because 1) it is very useful for you, you can get a lot of information about a place by how someone talks about where they work 2) it turns the interview into more of a conversation which is what you want 3) it always goes over well because people LOVEEE to talk about themselves, arguably the most important point. your interview is probably nervous too or tired of doing interviews. They love to be out of the hot seat

asking this when meeting someone new, fun discovery process for both parties! instead of ā€œso what do you do for work?ā€ or for the collegiates: ā€œwhat’s your major?ā€ this question serves the choose-your-own-adventure purpose because not everyone is afforded/prefers a stable job or education. it also allows you to get to know someone better, maybe they’re going to tell you about the 200 plants they take care of, or the profound though they’ve been stuck on. or, maybe they will think you’re weird and just tell you what they do for work, which is fine too, because it also answers the question. plus, people get excited when you ask them this. it’s unconventional in those early stages, cool points awarded brethren.

Look at them and notice something that they actively chose today. Easy ones are like clothes, bags, jewlery, makeup or whatever. But you’d probably have even better luck with like if they’re holding a shopping bag or a book or a cup of coffee or the keychain on their keys. idk those are just the examples I thought of. But basically that’s something intentional, so that’s something they will have thoughts/feelings/opinions on. Ask a question or make a comment that requires them to reveal that. Like a question you would want someone in your life to ask you about something that you put energy towards, yk? Like for me I always want to talk to people about books I’ve read or that theyve read. Or when Im holding a food or drink I probably could talk about why I wanted that. But the most important part dude. Is to gauge reaction after that. If they wanna talk more then yay. If not, you gotta let it go don’t push. It’s a them thing, not a you thing.

Picture him running after a ping pong ball he dropped and not being able to catch it. I’ve heard that this works.

Recently I’ve been obsessed with the movie 3 iron. it’s written and directed by Kim Ki-duk and it’s absolutely mesmerized me. Most of the film has no dialogue but when I was watching it at first I didn’t even notice. The emotion and suspense is entirely carried by the narrative and the acting. It’s a movie that really captures my focus when I watch it and it’s definitely one that I like to rewatch to reanalyze what I think is going on. Romantic, eerie, kinda comforting 10/10.

Kind of a lie cause I did rewatch it once (when I was sick for some reason) and I cried so hard I couldn’t breathe. Beautiful movie, don’t regret seeing it and i probably will watch it again someday, when I have someone else to subject to the torture, but I think that day is far into my future. It’s one of studio Ghibli’s best movies but its hard bringing yourself to watch something you know is so painful to see. When I watch it the moment I start crying I don’t stop till after it’s over.
