This adaptation of an Australian reality show ran on A&E from 2004-2007 and was intended to be a thinly-veiled advertisement for Southwest Airlines. What it instead captures is the way in which the personalities we build around ourselves unravel completely when we have somewhere we need to go. People are thrown off planes for being drunk, for being stinky, for getting into fights with strangers. 9/11, still a recent memory, comes up with shocking frequency. I used to worry about flying; that I would miss a flight, that I would somehow offend. Now I know that it’s enough to just show up at the gate without melting down. I want nothing more than there to be 2000 more episodes of this short-lived gem, and for me to be allowed in the editing room. Episodes are frequently uploaded and reuploaded freely to youtube in multi-hour marathon formats. This is the primitive and childish American mind laid bare. Enjoy.

I like to raw dog a flight with no media or accessories. No music book or pen, just tunneling thru air with my demons. I’m not sure where else you can find such a curated experience. I used to feel concerned about the environmental impact of flying but then I decided that the plane would get to where it was going whether or not i was on it. I find traveling necessary for personal enrichment and art making. I find that when I go to a new place I come home a little bit wiser and kinder. I always have gum on the plane and everyone can have some. I love eating the little airplane meals like I’m in kindergarten, I love the pink lights and cold clean air.

Here are the movies I watched on the plane from Brisbane, Australia —> London, England, starred for their merit as in-flight entertainment. Please lmk ur fave plane movies!!! Theatre Camp ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It was so fun to introduce this modern classic to Bridget, who is a reformed theatre kid, like me. We pressed play on our seat-back monitors at the same time and swigged vodka/lemonade every time someone said ”Joan”. You Hurt My Feelings ⭐️⭐️ I’m sure I would love this film under other circumstances, but it was too quiet to cut through the sound of parents trying to get their baby to sleep. The Adults ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ J’adore a drama famille. The silly voices & childhood dance routines were all the more sublime 40,000 ft above sea level. Love, Simon ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Usually, I loathe a coming-out narrative, but 21 hours into our transit, all I needed was to hear Jennifer Garner say the words “You deserve everything you want.” The Wizard Of Oz ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First-time screening!!!! Despite never having watched the film before, I have somehow developed a ghost imprint of the entire thing in my head, probably from seeing clips of it in other movies. Watching it during our descent into Heathrow felt like being read a bedtime story as a child, knowing to trace the words with my fingers but not knowing what they meant until Mum spoke them aloud.

lately I’ve found myself going out and punching people in the back of the head, pushing groceries out of peoples’ arms, and kicking people in the stomach. it’s a great reminder that you can find community with others in unconventional ways, and that what can be harmful for other people can often be really fun for me. go out and hurt someone today!

Every time i forget my water bottle at the gym I realize how much better and more energized I feel when i rip an intense cardio set without sucking down some stupid water. Especially when i haven’t drank water all day. You unlock a new level of athleticism, perseverance, and stoicism. It makes you sick seeing the sheeple around you drinking their liquid out of their precious little Stanleys and Naglenes. Whats the matter? Baby need his baa baa? Give me a break Stretching before working out sucks too
