generative text is not your friend. it's a toy with high costs (to society, to your mind, to the environment) and higher still to come. link is an article from 1/15/25 about a woman in love with a ChatGPT construct.

nah, i wouldn't use it like that, and i'd strongly recommend that no one does. there have been various pieces written about AI inducing what is essentially religious/spiritual psychosis in people, some of which have even lead to divorce. but, even aside from that, replacing human interaction, companionship or therapy, with a hyper-advanced predictive text chat bot will do nothing but further alienate people, especially under capitalism. i think using it to talk to someone that's deceased isn't quite as bad as the latter, but is still very bad. understanding and coping with mortality is something that humans have been doing the entire time we've existed, and a key part of the way we process death involves not being able to talk to the deceased person anymore. aside from completely removing that aspect of the experience of losing a loved one, what are the ethical implications of this, and how would one even feasibly "get their loved one into the LLM?" would you have to upload their all of their diaries to some cloud based AI service? would you have to painstakingly write their biography into the prompt field yourself? i think a lot of people are using "AI" (i hate that its even called that) for things that it should never have been used for. use it as a tool to summarize your emails and make lists, not as a therapist or girlfriend.

Ummm so. I wrote about how it feels to get close to someone new for the first time and wanting them to know everything about you and your history and truly GET you and kind of merge with you to create something new together — except this time it's not a human it's CHAT GPT!!! anyway if you think you would like this plus some musings on like, what Chat's capabilities are and how close it is to being human then maybe you should read my substack post.

I’m being fully FORCED to use AI on Google Office and it’s SO annoying. I don’t appreciate that after any Google Meets (which SUCKS by the way) that Gemini wants to send me a recap of the meeting. I DON’T WANT GEMINI ANYWHERE NEAR ME! Also, this AI Fiverr GO I keep getting force-fed in my YouTube Ads, that uses individual creators AI to generate content that looks like the content they’d create is absolutely insane and horribly dystopian. What happened to art? What happened to appreciating the human spirit, and learning from our mistakes? Idk, but I’m tired. AI could have been a really genius way for expanding our understanding of important issues, but instead it’s used just for people to honestly be lazy, and also creepy. Weird Note: People falling in love with AI is honestly really tragic. But, as someone who has a grandmother who has repeatedly fallen for scammers due to loneliness, I would rather have her fall in love with AI versus someone who’s trying to get (and has successfully gotten) her bank account information to slowly take money from her and string her along via horribly photoshopped photos and copy & pasted poems found off of google with her name added to seem unique. Just strange to say I’d rather have my grandma fall in love with a robot vs a scammer 😂😂.

I feel like 12 is a wonderful place to start. 1 book a month. Keep it in your bathroom. Beside your bed. Where you eat your meals. Please read this year. It's one of the best things you can do for yourself. and for me, and for everyone who you'll tell, I'm reading again, and you should read with me too. Take pictures or screencaps of passages and send them to your friends. Read funny, easy books, evil and upsetting books, books that are boring but are still satisfying to finish. Go to the library. Challenge yourself. You will feel better, you'll feel proud of yourself, and you'll banish the negative moodlet of being mad or ashamed at yourself for not reading. It's ok that you haven't been. You had your reasons and it doesn't do any good to beat up on yourself. That was then and this was now. Start a book tomorrow bc it is a new day :)

I don't listen to any AI generated playlists because I prefer to hear ones curated by people. I love sharing music as a human to human thing. It's also dismaying how music streaming services prioritize the songs of artists whose management pay them, etc. It's so fun to simply browse anonymous person's curated lists instead on top of sharing with friends. It's never been easier to peek into someone else's semi-private music preference and walk their landscape. Just today I found a person who's made dozens of playlists for specific beanie babies (!), all with no saves or likes. We don't need AI driven sorting to develop taste and find things we like. Break out of the corral with me and run free. Let's see what's over the hill
