I virtually spend all my time on this app using the "asks" function. It's fun and satisfying to help others out with specific prompts and tasks — and I know when I have a question they'll be there for me as well! Great to build sense of community and 1 love to offer what I can! On the other hand, I have my criticisms of the "recs" function (if you would like to hear, i’d be happy to talk about potential feedback) but I'm fine with chilling on the "asks" for now😎

- Loving the early-internet vibe aesthetically and spiritually. In the latter sense, appreciate the democratic nature of the ‘everyone’ tab - it feels wild and thrilling in the way of an aol chat space. - In the same vein, mildly suspicious of the user spotlights; one of the reasons I left IG in favor of PI was the feeling that I was being fed paid or preferred content and it felt yuck. Popularity contests are out. - Would be more inclined to pay for pro if there was some guarantee/agreement that the money was going towards keeping the platform ad-free *forever*. - I like how it can function as a source of recommendations/aspirational user-generated content *and* as a personal mini- blog/collage of interests. I think that keeping its purpose flexible in this way would be smart. Suspect folks are burnt out on likes and follows and promotion, but love to digitally scrapbook towards self-actualization. - Big yes to the ‘ask’ feature, enjoy when they’re wacky, and hope it remains central to the concept. Would maybe be more encouraged to engage upon opening the app if new, randomized questions were up top instead of recs.

I've been thinking about this over the last week of using pi.fyi: one of the many things that makes this platform special is that the mode of interaction is totally built around giving to and serving others. Givings recs — a gift to others Asking for recs — giving others the chance to give us something Re-recing — giving honor to recs from others / giving others something good that we didn't create Truly beautiful. -- ...so since this is a feedback thread, I guess my feedback would be: even as features and enhancements are added, please keep it simple — don't stray from this basic framework.

Since I started using PI.FYI last month, I've posted 100 times in three weeks—a combo of asks and recs. Sidebar: I think there's not too much or too little posting. You could post dozens of times daily or you could never post at all, and if it is the right fit for you, then good! — Embrace the right fit for you and shun any kind of comparisons with anyone or any false self bullshit measuring sticks. For me one hundred posts in three weeks is prodigious. A casual scan back at my usage of other social media type sites—Fartbook, Instabutt, Substack Nuts, etc—shows that it would have taken several years to hit three digits. Something about this space—which I think is the most exciting online place since 2020-era Substack, RIP—has re-sparked that creative community spirit. I love: - the people - the structure that is organized around asking and offering - the fact that I've picked up stupendously great advice on a whole range of things — from notebooks to health tips to life hacks and new music and books and so much more - the sincerity: I've seen this recced before, yes! — maybe this is #1
