I’m trying to improve my ability to appreciate the small things & this is one of them. I’ve had a couple interactions with people who I typically try to avoid, for whatever reason my brain has convinced me into, where we briefly connect with one another. We both witness something that no one else did, a glance is shared, & laughter begins. It’s small but beautiful how little events or moments can create a significant change in people’s perceptions of one another. These fleeting moments always help remind me to re-examine my feelings towards people that i’ve never truly taken the time to understand. Sharing a real laugh with someone is much more important than what we give it credit for.

I used to be so embarrassed by how my laugh sounded but I’m glad I got over that. I love laughter and how a genuine laugh is involuntary, contagious, and forces you to smile. Also love how faking a laugh has the complete opposite connotation. A fake laugh is snide, a false palliative measure, that you can feel is disingenuous. The instinct to distinguish between the two feels cosmic to me. Excited to laugh with my friends this weekend 😌

No longer stuck with an unsavory memory, which would have gripped you tightly.

And what you remember is the joyful experience of our existence

I love being an outfit repeater. I love when my clothes start to feel roomy & slouchy. I love when I notice the fabric color fading. I love when my jeans fray & the denim starts to break open on the knees. I love it when my clothes show that i’ve lived.

I found her at a family gathering about 7-8 years ago. The previous lady who was taking care of her & a colony of feral cats moved away, leaving her without a consistent food source. She hung around me the whole day, soaking up the sun from a lawn chair while occasionally stealing some of my mac & cheese. That day I ended up taking her home, now she’s my whole world. Since then, i’ve started studying all things cat (especially feline behavior), working at animal shelters, occasionally fostering, & volunteering at other animal shelters + different pet retention services. She’s taught me so much & has given me the motivation to be better everyday. I don’t know what i’d do or be without her.
