As a teen I always really romanticized the idea of what CBGBs was like and was somewhat heartbroken when they closed knowing I’d never get to go. A few years ago I was walking around NY by myself and just happened upon this incredible Shepard Fairey mural. That’s happened to me a couple times with his work now and it never disappoints!
i worked here for a few years and often got emotional just entering it (dramatic i know!!), it is just such a marvel, truly emblematic of the city/iconic, visiting the top was always such an adventure, also my fav part was that there are these murals throughout the lobby (mainly the ceiling but also the reception desk wall and in the elevators) that feature gears in celestial formations it is extremely steampunk!!!!
Constantly passed by these buildings my whole life, would love to do a deep dive into how these gorgeous marvels were designed and constructed, how they’ve managed to remain in spite of countless other eras (ie brutalism) overtaking the culture, and how it’s influenced the landscape of NYC as a whole.
I usually just make myself drip coffee or a single cup of tea during the week but I’ve got a little time so why not make a whole tea service just for me
