i always avoided it bc the idea of 12+ playlists a year seemed excessive and i wouldnât be tempted to go back to them. but seasonally is something i can rock with.
Since i was 16 ive been doing this thing where I have one main playlist called âCurrentlyâ and I add anything Iâm vibing with Then when I start getting sick of songs/want a fresh start, I copy paste the songs and file them away into a new âSeasonâ But theyâre not actual seasons, theyâre more like metaphorical seasons. Some seasons span a year, some just a few days. Some symbolize change or a series of events Of course I have some separate genre based playlists as well, but for me this works perfectly as an alternative to monthly Playlists
I make playlists every month or every season, depending on my mood. Itâs nice to go back and listen to stuff I was into my freshmen year of college, or during the pandemic. I add songs to the playlist that my friends send me or I hear in movies or tv shows, along with songs I just love and want to be hearing. Like a little time capsule
sometimes i get into a âplaylist-paralysisâ where i fixate on making an immaculate playlist where all the songs perfectly fit the exact vibe im thinking of, and because of that i end up not making a playlist at all. which was not awesome.
so instead of freaking out like this, iâve been making monthly playlists where i put any song iâve been liking that month. itâs great and if i find future vibe inspiration, i can pull from my own musical shelf.
plus as a bonus, you start to associate the songs from each month to the memories of that month and the people youâve met and the things youâve done. pretty cool.
two women next to me on the train are having an insightful heart to heart. a guy behind me is clearly flirting with this girl and you can tell itâs mutual. we all have rich, rich inner lives :)
