ur answer is right in ur description.. ur anxiety is stopping u from enjoying university more. join those clubs. pull up to a meeting and just simply ask questions. everyone’s also just a human being too. if it’s too late, try again next semester.

Other people are looking for new friends too, as most come in with no friends, and I’m sure will be happy to meet you. Just put yourself out there with the knowledge that everyone is in the same situation as you, looking to meet new people. I used to be really introverted before uni but now some people even call me an extrovert. You have so much to gain from societies so go to whatever interests you, to meet new people and participate in new activities, especially at this time of the year when the term is just starting up again! Even the people on society committees may have started out anxious when they first joined. Only thing is some sports societies might be more competitive and may be teams only, but there should still be plenty that are open to beginners if you’re new to the sport. Many people seem to only come in for the lectures and leave afterwards. But for those who do get involved in societies, uni goes from just a place for learning to a place of great fun too, which makes you look forward to every day :)

I know that it feels like you’re waiting to find your people, and it’s isolating and lonely and I want to affirm that that’s hard— but in the same way that you are waiting, your people are out there waiting to meet you. I understand the difficulties of an anti-social campus, but I encourage you to find clubs, events, and activities that you already enjoy, because whoever you meet there already has something in common with you. If you have a class with anyone who you think is cool, thinks in a way you admire, or whose writing you like— tell them. There’s nothing more affirming than feeling noticed by a classmate, and I met my closest girlfriends that way. You could try an intramural sports league, or a climbing gym, or a book club. I promise you’ll find your friends, they’re looking for you too.

so many people will tell you this but omg join groups, clubs, or whatever org you can. start one even! this is my biggest regret despite being in a few rn. you will not regret it because its a great venue to get to know people and theres nothing wring with doing some pruning if you feel overwhelmed! also if you cast a wide net you‘re odds of meeting people you click with are sooo much better
