β some brilliant panel design β extremely carefully observed, both visually (very studied posing and [god this makes me feel old] era-appropriate details, along with really lovely use of soft shapes and clean lines) and also emotionally and behaviorally. these character feel real and notably flawed, without feeling tired and overdrawn, if that makes sense
a really engaging read, easily read it all in one sitting. i will note that your mileage with 'roaming' will likely be dependent on if you can "relate" to the characters and scenarios of the story, simply because it is such a humble and concentrated small-scale story. personally, sometimes i did relate sometimes i really didn't and i could see that impacting my relationship to the book in real time.

Reading this book is like sipping on the most perfectly steeped cup of peppermint tea. Very grounding. It honestly changed how I read, and how I think about what I read. I took my time reading the book over a few months, and scribbled a whole journal full of poems in the process. The author is from New Zealand so she references a lot of contemporary kiwi poets!

πi connected so much to this book, as an artist and recent college grad but most importantly as someone who stuggles with mental illness and utilizes escapism. my fav thing about this book is that the narrator remains unnamed which really allowed me to embed myself into this book and i think thats one of the biggest reasons this book was so impactful to me.
since moving back home, i rediscovered my local library and omg luv it so much
