Finding people to collab is hard man. I feel like a lot of people are just in it to look cool, or for some short lived clout. That’s wack as fuck. Coming from hardcore and punk scenes, everyone is so stoked just to be involved. Sure, now and again the typical grifter comes along and leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth and creates music that I feel is disingenuous, but those guys are easy to weed out. You should create with people who are stoked as you are on a project. If the only thing y’all do for a minute is nerd out over whatever Blueprints you got laid out, that’s exactly what you want. Every band i’ve played in has just been with people who get excited hearing the words “hardcore” or “mosh part” in the same sentence, and that has always lead to some of my favorite memories when writing or recording. TLDR: Find people who are excited, down, and show up and put in work. Those people are worth collabing with

how do you find those people? i feel like whenever i’m in space i get semi-self conscious about being perceived as a grifter or opportunist so i look for ways to help out before asking for help but that doesn’t always lead to anything either

alaiyo For me it was going to shows. I just met people there that have become life long friends. I’d just be like “yo what’s up” and then see what the convo has. You gotta have a bit of bravado and insanely high slightly over confidence. The band i play in now legit started because i just kept going to shows, putting on for seattle, and just moshing hard. Obviously, I don’t think you might be in hardcore or like music stuff. Maybe you are hahah, but i feel like the ethos i live by for creative spaces can apply anywhere

I think everyone should do it, regardless of technical proficiency. It's like a little polycule. And like any relationship, it has its ups and downs and lifespan. But there's just nothing like playing with people you love, then sharing how you play together with the rest of the world. Do it! Form a band! Play around! Make noise! Make cool merch and throw yourself a show! Break up! Get back together! Spice of life.

It's the key to making the whole thing work -- listen to the album some guy you met in Ohio sent you; watch the short film that the 22-year old you met at KGB DM'd you; show up to the screening if you can. It can seem like a nuisance cuz you can't see what P4k rated it and Taylor Swift or whoever isn't involved and you'll have no reaction to lean on but your own. But it's the key to staying passionate and making friends and keeping this whole DIY ecosystem working.

Let’s make some music together. Even better if we sound nothing alike. Who’s down to share stems and just release it into the wild unfettered by concern?

My fav snack is legit the ye olde protein shake. They’ve gotten so much better over the years that they got ones that taste like a vanilla milkshake. Granola is also my fav snack also. Good stuff in them chunks of oats
