My sister and I, both in our early 20s, spent the holidays at home, eagerly re-exploring the depths of our childhood LPS collection to determine which ones best represent each of us. All of this is to say- I love this question. I am certainly this diva dog, LPS #175. The pink bows, the curtain bang-esque drape of her fluffy ears! Her expression reads as playful and coquettish like, dare I say, the Sabrina Carpenter of LPS! And with that, I clarify that this is the adorable LPS I most aspire to be. Lol

In shape, spirit or both. Let people gawk and feel joy at primal, goofy symmetry. As for me, it's I that resemble my schnauzer, Luna. The hierarchy is clear and just. She is and therefore, I am; a goober, that is.

Me and Danny and my twin sister Sonia had a text thread called Send Poods that was strictly dedicated to sneaky pictures of poodles with good haircuts: a shaved snoot, pom-pom or bell bottom ankles, and a wasp waist. The best poodles in the world are in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, still, by the way. None of us wanted/want to own a poodle, to be clear (way too much work, with our high standards) or a dog at all, but they have come to represent perfection for us, the tensions between wild curls and refined silhouettes, an archaic upper class aspiration and in-the-moment, fun-loving behavior. Danny called me his poodle, and sometimes when I see one now I cry a little to myself.

In pre-21st century movies and media, we always see couples that go to bed, independently read their books, and once sleepy, clap off the lights and peacefully retire to sleep. Maybe there’s a reason this trope is so common! Maybe couples who read together, sleep together!! Reading before bed regulates my brain and body in ways I did not know were possible. Screens are bad for you, specifically and especially before bedtime… who knew! And with a good nights sleep I have so much energy to do things, including but not limited to more reading.

Collecting a stack of printed takeout menus from local restaurants is equivalent to finding community in your town/city. I love to get off my phone and flip through a printed menu when deciding what to order for dinner, appreciating the graphic design choices and the hometown staples on each menu. And they are only wasteful if you waste them! What great material for emergency note-taking, for adorning your fridge, for COLLAGING! Oh my goodness what great and meaningful content organically exists in a printed takeout menu from your favorite local spot.

Mr. Cassavetes is the man who has made me cry the most, isn’t that saying something! Starting ten minutes into the 2.5 hour-long film, I felt my heart slowly sink into my stomach, and by the end I was claustrophobic with such feelings of hopelessness, confusion, and the sting of reality. I cried myself to sleep, I didn’t know what else to do with myself! A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE is worth a watch for all these reasons, and for Gena Rowland’s unmatched and masterful performance, and for these reasons is a movie I must never watch again. Brava!
