I think this song has some of the most romantic lyrics ever. Plus those synths are gorgeous. Don't even get me started on the love version from Stop Making Sense!

I have loved this song since the first time I heard it. I learned to play it on guitar literally sitting there with it on repeat trying out different fingerings until I got it right. Allegedly, the lyrics for the song were taken from Valentine’s Day candy hearts. (This seems more like the initial idea vs. how it was actually created/executed). I feel like this song goes WAY beyond romance and into obsession territory -- Michael Stipe (singer) clearly wants to be everything to the object of his desire. "I want the finger with the ring." Perfect. There is a version with Thom Yorke (Radiohead) singing this with the R.E.M. "players" that is also superb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKPg1rURPqo

From 1972; his song "It Must Be Love" was covered much later by Madness. Words will fail. So just listen. Every soundtrack accompanying a movie about the Me Decade should feature this tune.

I'm not obsessed with it but it's always sweet when the barista does something cool. This one yesterday made me smile because after seeing a few others I realised the guy was doing Pokémon! Fairly certain mine is mew or Mewtwo, I saw him do a horsea, pikachu, and squirtle too...

Koudelka was a photographer who documented Europe from the 60s onwards, recording the lives of travelling people, Soviet invasions, struggles with poverty, and more. He later became a member of the Magnum society and continued his work into old age. If you have the time, it's really worth digging into his work as he had a real eye for striking images that provide a lot of context for the situation he was in. He used to travel with very little besides a sleeping bag and camera so he often experienced the harsher side of life while on the job. At times his photos were smuggled out of the soviet borders, and published anonymously, to keep him safe. Check the link for a good starting point on Magnum's website!
