vintage japanese cast iron pan $7 at goodwill. stripped and reseasoned and now have a perfect non-stick surface with no chemicals leeching in my food. makes me slowly want to swap out all my cookware with CI counterparts

Could you share your stripping / seasoning process? I’ve got a CI skillet in desperate need of some TLC!

salad_valet that skillet wasn’t in the worst condition so i got lucky. basically just used barkeepers friend and a metal scrubber to get the rust and carbon build up off and leave remove all the old seasoning. gave it about three rounds of that with soapy water in between rounds until it was pretty bare. for my seasoning process i opted to seal it by frying a nice batch of tortilla chips and it was totally nonstick after that. people recommend frying bacon to seal it but i’ve read about certain proteins that actually break down your seasoning so i tried deep frying instead and that did the trick. best of luck with your CI

While everyone is raving about their trendy nonstick pans, I’m here to bring the spotlight back to cast iron cookware. There’s a huge stigma around how hard it is to take care of cast irons, but it’s really not bad! You just gotta keep using it, and over time, it basically becomes nonstick. This article has sent off a tangent, and now I am a proud owner of a well-seasoned cast iron pan and griddle.

listen up. Discard everyone who acts like a Chef™️ for using a cast iron pan. they’re being ridiculous. you Can clean it with regular soap, you don’t need to worry about “seasoning” it, you can get it super cheap used and it will last forever. you can use it as an Oven pan. No PFAs. I use mine at least once a day, sometimes 3-4 times a day. buy a small one for like $3 on fb marketplace and if you like it then buy a big one. You will not regret it

what i do like about graffiti is how it can liven up an otherwise meaningless and unassuming building/area. there’s some tagging that is of course obnoxious and unnecessary but in some areas, it just shows you that there’s an ounce of culture/humanity in what would sometimes be just any other industrial area. i’m thinking of warehouses and industrial areas of los angeles that have some bold, colorful, and sometimes outlandish work that can be fun to admire. theres the infamous graffiti tower in downtown that was also cool af. it gives a lot of pop to our often very bland and grey scenescape. there’s definitely some skill here that i do NOT have and enjoy seeing it more often than not.

been listening to her Other World EP for the last couple of rainy weeks in LA. 4 songs, 20 minutes, and sets a somber yet poppy tone for a short drive. her latest single from last year is also stellar, really love the simplicity in the production. could easily fit in with late 80’s synthpop/industrial (depeche mode, soft cell). nice change of pace. check it out ⬆️
