Magnus von Horn's 'The Girl with the Needle' is a masterclass in tension and atmosphere. The film's exploration of societal pressures on women, the desperation of poverty and the complexities of motherhood is both disturbing and compelling. What did you make of it?
had no idea what this was about and my god I was not ready. a BRUTAL watch that manages to avoid gratuity while staying within service of its greater message. the score by Frederikke Hoffmeier is exceptional and brings so much emotional resonance to the film. sooooooooooooo good but not for the faint of heart!
Haven't seen it yet, but it's nominated for an Oscar. It's a black and white Danish film that seems to mix horror with history. It has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the people I know who have watched it loved it.
Unequivocally the most harrowing film I have ever seen and I cannot get it out of my head….
Deeply disturbing , anxiety inducing, compelling, stomach churning. Shot and written with effective precision, without overkill or gratuitous exploitation. Movies about the human will to survive are hard to do without being either corny or played out and this does follow a similar narrative arc but I really appreciated how it was told. I recommend watching the little docu about the making of the film. I love production. Unbelievable true story and really compelling film
