i absolutely ADORE oklou's new album, choke enough. it's like an angel descended from heaven, perched on your shoulder, whispered a few secrets in your ear and flew off into the night sky, i love the mix of field recordings and how she effortlessly strings a range of sounds together to create music that's so unique notable mentions : thank you for recording, ict, want to wanna come back, blade bird bonus for her nts performance (on an ice rink !!!!)

I first discovered Oklou when she opened for Caroline Polachek on the Pang tour in 2021 and thank heavens I did because she just released her premiere album and it is a marvel! She‘s an incredible producer/DJ, and she’s worked with some of your favs to bring back that early oughts frutiger-aero-esque sparkle sound you imagine hearing in an all-white interior spaceship. My favs off this album (so far) are obvious, ict, and blade bird. I also highly recommend her songs god’s chariot and galore off her 2020 mixtape known by the latter name.

recommended by valoorie once again, not my usual genre, but i love how she stacks her vocals, so beautiful! i also love the basslines. i gotta be honest i was not expecting this at all, i was expecting more ambient music with soft billie eilish esque vocals and i was very pleasantly surprised. i was definitely not expecting jazzy instrumentals at allll. her voice is sooooooo soothing oh my god this will definitely become an album i will put on when i want to peacefully fall asleep, absolutely majestic i think my favourite tune from the album is wade. its just so so peaceful. the harmonies makes me close my eyes and bop my head from left to right in slow motion. its so well orchestrated, and ah the jazzy electric piano just hits the right notes. (side note: i have noticed that often the longest songs in albums tend to be my fav lolol) the way that each strong is structured is so inspiring to me. it does not follow conventional patterns but flows wherever it wants to and i love that. the album reminds me of imagiro's production, how it sounds so minimal but is so detailed with multiple instruments stacked on top of each other. i would really recommend his newest album unfold to everyone that likes sling! i loved listening to this album, and once again it was a very welcome surprise. her lyrics feel very intimate, which i feel like requires a few more listens from me to fully grasp. but i can tell they're very personal and i can definitely see myself crying to this album once i am more familiar with it in the future lol. amazing experience so far there hasnt been a single album that i havent loved! great recommendations by yall haha

a myth dating from the victorian period, these tiny, decorative glass bottles were wept into by those mourning their loved ones. once the tears collected eventually evaporated, this marked the end of their mourning period. this myth has been debunked by scientists, with others saying that these bottles were in fact used to store perfumes, but i'm very obsessed with this romantic notion and will be sticking to it!

*shines bright light in your face* But WHY do you like what you like?! Echoing a sentiment from Tyler, the Creator, where he tweeted for people to expand on what they liked about his songs and delve into the WHY (i.e the bridge, chords, riffs) Truly believe it’s so so important to be able to articulate why things bring us enjoyment, pleasure and giddiness, because that just makes way for one to obsess/ research and learn more about said thing! This is basically a gratitude post for PI, I just love blagging about what makes this Little Life of Mine more bearable !!!

i see solitude as metamorphosis. you need that time in the cocoon to really check in with yourself and the joy of that comes from how you'll gain a deeper understanding of yourself. sometimes i spend SO much time with myself that i get SO BORED that I HAVE to venture outside of myself. when i say venture, i mean challenging myself in how i self- express which will in turn, nourish my interactions with others when i choose to seek company. proceeding to create art, but trying new methods. going down youtube rabbit holes of things i am interested in so i can discover new references. cooking a meal without following a recipe and surprising myself. making the space i am in super cosy (candles, snacks on deck, music, blankets) going on long walks and picking up conversations with strangers through shared observations of life around us. watching music festivals/boiler rooms and dancing around my room like a mad man. once you feel comfortable in being by yourself, you'll be more aware of what you need from your company and when you seek it, you'll be a lot more intentional about it and cherish it even more.
