finally watched this after seeing a bunch of reels of Jesse talking about the movie on my feed and wow! definitely has second-time writer/director (right?) bits to it but the theme of pain is pulled in so many interesting directions here that the whole thing came out really touching and compelling. and i mean the dinner scene??
This has easily become one of my favorite movies! I can relate to so many aspects of Benji’s character, he just feels so deeply. Everyone deals with their pain in such different ways
I would have put The Brutalist or Conclave on this list had I not just watched A Real Pain by Jesse Eisenberg. Incredibly poignant and touching portrayal of loss and how pain is reverberated throughout time. Kieran Culkin had me sobbing like a puppy. I rate it: 5 bags of popcorn and a copy of Holy Rollers.
I really loved this movie, even though it wasn't what I expected. I hadn't read or seen much about it before watching it and it was a pleasant surprise. I cried my eyes out twice during this movie. and now, after a few days of watching it, I realized that it made me see a lot of new things about myself. so try to stay clueless about this one and watch it.
The Kieran Culkin + Jesse Eisenberg duo is absolutely incredible. Great flick if you like real dialogue and believable characters. It has a lot to say!
