this reminded me of the american poetry class i took at uni, our professor showed us these while reading 19th century poems about nature. they’re stunning!
hard to pin down a specific one but this is a fav genre of mine in terms of art. I remember visiting the national gallery in DC a while back and being floored by some of the pieces on display. they’re so detailed that it’s almost hyper-real, depicting things with such realism that it’s enhanced. I could spend hours poring over these, and they’re so much better to look at in person. this one I linked is by Church but there’s a ton of great ones by Cole, Bierstadt, and their contemporaries that all rock
Perry’s paintings feel lived in an intense way. He has a Hopper thing going on if you replaced memories of a different America with nostalgia for your walk home last Sunday. Bradt makes these fantastical scenes and landscapes that actually feel magical more than they reference anything impossible. McGlashan paints nearly abstract scenes and realist ones with the same personality— they all feel loose and effortless and romantic.
Your Day Will Come - Chanel Beads This was a 2024 album that slipped under my radar. There are male and female vocals layered between beautiful electronic music. If you like the Mk.gee album, you’ll love this one. It’s a great album and one that would have made my end-of-the-year list had I listened to it last year.
