As someone who works at the front desk of a tattoo shop, the most important advice that I could give you is that you should at least look at google reviews and the artist's social media to get a feel at who you are gonna get tattooed by. A lot of irresponsible artists don't know how to say no to things they aren't good at and will fuck you up big time for a couple bucks. In terms of skill and cleanliness, there are basically no regulations in the tattoo industry, so finding an artist who is clean, caring, and actually does the style of tattoo you want is in your best interest. P.S. if you get to a shop and get bad vibes, don't be afraid to walk the fuck outta there. Save your skin some serious trauma and find someone who can do what you are looking for.

Start by finding a highly rated studio and then look at the artists portfolios- see whose art you vibe with the most and ask about pricing. With those I’ve found some really good people and finally found my go to artist for things because of great experiences in studio. On your first tat ask as many qs as you have and be honest about whether you like sketches or not- they build restencils and reworking into your time with them so speak up then tip well!

My style of collecting tattoos now is similar to art collecting where I choose specific artists I know suit my look and I specifically want to collect their artworks on me. So that could be an option if you decide that’s the way you would like to start. I love a range of different styles artwork but it’s important for me to have tattoos that look like I was born with them in my skin than tattoos that look out of place or don’t suit my vibe, so when I choose an artist I look at their portfolio and know immediately when I want their work on my body versus when I would just appreciate their work on others bodies. That said it’s based on your collecting style too. most importantly finding an artist that has a consistent portfolio (doesn’t copy off other artworks that are not specific to their style) is something I look out for. A consistent artist would be able to give you the specific style you’re looking for in their own unique way.

It’s incredible how many people genuinely think they are boring. There have been so many times I’ve spoken with people and they confess that they think that they haven’t done much with their life, or that they don’t have much interesting to talk about, but it’s almost never the case. From what I can tell, it’s often caused by a lack of knowing thyself. Or maybe a low self esteem? I’ve been through it too, and it is so so not true for anyone. You’ve done so much living. Why do you feel like your story is not worth telling? I know you’ve gone through some crazy shit once or twice. if you really haven’t, what’s stopping you from getting out there and creating stories to talk about? Start small! go to a coffee shop once a week. See if they have any clubs to join, and try that out! you’ll be making memories in NO TIME. If you have trouble finding meaningful/fun conversation, just remember that the effort must flow both ways. You are merely just working with what the other person is providing you, and if they aren’t giving you anything to work with, it’s not your fault. You aren’t boring, you are just around people who dont vibe with you. And that’s okay! Not every person is going to be your specific kind of person. Plus, if you aren’t having fun talking to them, why does it matter if they like you? the much cooler people who value your input are just around the corner. I promise. One day you’ll be able to shine your beautiful personality on someone who is equally as bright you are, you magnificent comet, you.
