by Matisse. I saw this one in person when I went to London for the first time and was absolutely gobsmacked. I don't think I'll ever forget the rush of warmth I felt seeing this piece. I went back to the Tate Modern like three times in as many weeks to see it again and again and again.
This was rec'd by someone on here and I got to make the tour. I thought it was pretty cool and accessible. it breaks down the main things of this wondrous monster of a painting and I plan on visiting this online interactive experience as long as it exists because this is one of my favorite pieces.
Cheating perhaps since I'm counting the trilogy as one- but young teen me was just blown away at the time. The Mines of Moria, the Battle of Helms Deep, the Death of Boromir (spoiler alert!) Eoweyn battling the Witch King of Angmar... Anything with Sam Honestly. "I am no man!" "You bow to no one!" I love rewatching them but I always remember how awesome it was to see them on the big screen in theaters for the first time.
