"Sabrina, don't just stare at it. Eat it." I was yesterday years old when I watched American Psycho in its entirety for the first time. I am familiar with the business card scene and some references but still hadn't seen it in full. This film feels like a fever dream. I understand why it's studied and imitated in many ways in the art and film world. The details in this film is insane. The script is sharp and compelling and the casting was a cherry on top. (William Dafoe - my fav) The pacing is quick and it doesn't have the fluff that some films have but don't need. I loveeee that this film shows and doesn't tell and in moments it feels like we are discovering in real time what his victims are going through. Patrick Batemans long tangents on music is the only real thing we understand that he enjoys (besides killing, fucking and drinking.) The use of internal monologue actually makes sense in this film and it's not a cop out to explain some back story as to why he is the way he is. And quite frankly, does anyone want to know? We discover facts and tidbits as we go through his daily life of being an asshole. Christian Bale's sociopathic stare needs to be studied because that was way too good (lmao). My rec is to rewatch it. Report back. P.S. get a new business card!

Holy shit, this was so good. Allow me to reference critic reviews: Noel Murray and Scott Tobias of The A.V. Club put Blow Out at #1 of their list of De Palma's besThe quintessential De Palma film, this study of a movie craftsman investigating a political cover-up marries suspense, sick humor, sexuality, and leftist cynicism into an endlessly reflective study of art imitating life imitating art. & In 2023, Time selected Blow Out as part of their list 100 Best Movies of the Past 10 Decades, praising it as "a film filled with mistrust, one where the ghosts of Chappaquiddick and the Zapruder film lurk in the corners."

I rewatched it for the first time in ages and even still was on the edge of my seat.  It’s a perfect movie. A PERFECT. MOVIE. And even though it didn’t come out in the summer, I think it’s the summer movie.  Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas, murder and MYSTERY. It gets remembered for the leg cross and that’s the least memorable thing about it. Watch it TONIGHT.

Growing up my mom always said "always have your mini skirt and high heel boots ready." Rewatching The Nanny I see where she may have gotten it from. Fran Drescher is a timeless style icon. A sexy appeal that wasn't too much in your face and yet still possesed that allure.

Film needs to make a comeback. Dark rooms, chemicals, film reels. I know polaroids are common nowadays but lets bring back disposable cameras, 35mm pocket cams, kodak developing centers at cvs. (Polaroid I took at a photoshoot 5 years ago.)
