i just discovered this woman last night and i am so moved and amazed. a ton of her music was released posthumously today. please listen. please google her. thereās a documentary about her life thatās getting a limited release soon and i already bought my ticket

I can never talk enough about Mary Lattimore's music. She's such a genius, and her vision and artistry is everything. She's been the soundtrack to my life since around 2015. I remember discovering her when I was on holiday in Rome and it was just so fitting. I've been returning to her music every now and again, and Iām always surprised with how she can make me feel so in touch with my humanity.Ā

I recently stumbled upon this wonderful woman's work via Spotify and I was very intrigued by the editing of her song I Have Considered the Lillies. The song seemed unexpectedly modern because there was a snippet of her speaking to other people in the room with her before she started playing the guitar and singing along. Because of this, I got curious and scrolled to her bio to see that apparently she went missing in her 40's, never to be found again. In a note she left tucked behind her filing cabinet before she left, she wrote, "let me go, let me be if I can, let me not be if I can't."
Her music lets us in on a glimpse behind a woman who felt so deeply, and despite her not finding the success she wanted in her time, I am happy to say that now in the heyday of confessional singer-songwriter music, her music has found a stage wherein the fiercely honest, tender, and vulnerable lyrics she wrote can at long last be appreciated as it always should have been.
I hope she found a life she loved, in the end. I hope she loved and wrote and lived the life fitting for a soul so beautiful.

this album was performed live as part of the last night of āeldorado ballroomā for saint heron and la philharmonic curated by solange and how i discovered it. itās mostly a jazz album but with 3 or 4 songs that are masses. itās a beautifully haunting and complex piece of art!

if you love a really famous musician or a major studio movie, you can probably find some bizarre promotional item on the internet. theyāre often too rare to purchase. but i DID just order a set of madonna russian nesting dolls from the music era, so it can be done
