I think reducing or eliminating our use of these huge megacorp platforms is ultimately the best way to fight back. I don’t think we can fix a platform in which the addictiveness and brain rot element is foundational to its success. Even the “good” stuff is designed to keep us in its endless loop.

I did this earleir in the year with X (Twitter). — Actually I thought I was just "deactivating" my account and that I could return later. But apparently X fully deletes the account after 30 days. This was unintended, but I'm really glad for how it worked out. Don't miss it at all. Where I'm at now with the other platforms, IG and FB, is that I'm genuinely asking that question — can I use these in a way that builds up and moves me toward the "best version of me" or is it an overall net negative? I'd like to reframe my engagement so it becomes a positive, but if I cannot do that I am going to deactivate my accounts.

I’m not talking about disabling I’m talking about deleting your fucking Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. The posting, scrolling, liking is helping nobody. Hardcore for some but the path I’ve chosen

I got rid of anything Meta related. With the way their algorithm works and the censoring that is going on, as well as the fake information and ai that gets passed around Meta specifically, even if you try to boost certain accounts all it’s really doing is making them money. I find it’s so much more relaxing to delete the apps and not even think about it. You might habitually try tapping where the apps used to be at first but it’s a quick adjustment in my opinion. Just make sure to text and call your friends instead so you don’t start to feel isolated!

it's free and 100% human, I recommend NTS Radio, which is web-based and has a huge archive of recorded shows in many genres and topics. Bandcamp and Soundcloud also have playlists that feel more carefully curated than Spotify's I think. oh and college radios are a great place for discovering new music too. There's a site called campus-fm.com that let's you tune into different ones across the US :) disclaimer: i work for a radio station
