this memory i have from 4th grade

Every time my feet are cold I remember that my 4th/5th grade bestie’s mom would say “my feet are cold, my teeth are gold, I have a bird I like to hold” (dr. suess I believe) and would hold her finger out and we’d perch our fingers on it like the legs of a little bird. Or sometimes she’d hold her whole forearm out and we’d use our whole hands like bird claws. we had to adjust our approximation of a bird to the size of the perch she offered. anyway I was just reading on my fire escape and went out there without my slippers on so I was like “damn my feet are cold. my teeth are gold I have a bird I like to hold”

donkey rides

very vividly remember riding a donkey in a biiig circle with my aunt holding the reins (reins??? lead rope??) - would have been before i moved here from new zealand so i was probably about 2 and a half :)))) also remember very purposefully carrying a piece of paper and a red crayon to the coffee table at about the same age. wish i could remember what i was so determined to draw

Probably my entire pre-k routine

My class started in the afternoon so I would stay home, my mom would drop me at my grandma and aunt’s house for breakfast, cartoons, getting ready while she went to work. I went to school for lunch and just remember enjoying rug time and learning numbers and colors and singing with my friends. We had “center” time and each center had a theme of toys (kitchen, cars/trucks, blocks, I forget the rest) and I remember having so much fun using my imagination for each center - trying to channel more excitement similar to when I was 4/5 again at the age of 26 :)

watch the water and listen to music

one of the best ways to pass time by yourself. I didn’t live near water before so I really appreciate my time with it now. The way the sun shines and glistens off of the small waves is soo pretty and calming. I also like to admire the boats in the harbor! I recommend listening to Weyes Blood Titanic Rising. The Maria’s, or Magdelena Bay are also great choices!! If you don’t live near water, take time to sit and admire the rustling leaves of trees or the harmony of a city skyline or homes in a neighborhood :)
