Just found out about Bill Evans, mid-century jazz pianist based out of New York. When I listen to jazz, I'm always reminded of either Little Bill or Charlie Brown and the Peanuts. I just can't get around that. Does it energize me or make me wanna tap my feet? Does it remind me of elementary school the week before winter break, on the carpet, watching A Charlie Brown Christmas? If the answer is yes, we're in a good place
Whenever I have an annoying administrative task to attend to, I put on Bill Evans. Often it’s You Must Believe In Spring or Conversations With Myself but it could be any of his records really or just something he played on. His piano playing is deeply comforting to me and at this point has a Pavlovian effect on my concentration that’s more powerful than Adderall.
i always start listening right around thanksgiving. my favorite albums are "a charlie brown christmas" and "charlie brown's holiday hits." absolute fav track is probably skating. i love that puts a little bounce in my step and makes finals season a little less scary :,) imo nobody can be unhappy while they're listening to some playful jazz. (bonus: snoopy)
It has a romantic storyline, but is mostly an epistolary, coming-of-age novel that, to me, is the most ethereally beautiful book I've ever read. His words are delicate and light enough to float off the page, yet they carry a depth of emotion that lingers long after the final letter is read.
