☹️
taught my 6th grade students about Haikus today and we attempted to write our own. One girl‘s work was particularly good. So good I read it to the class and praised her work. Shockingly good. Too good. Learned later it was ChatGPT. This is a new kind of heartbreak.

AI is kinda heartbreaking. forever thinking about this quote: “I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so I can do my laundry and dishes.” hopefully the kids will eventually see this is how it should be ☹️

I am a high school English teacher, and recently I’ve been making a lot of collaborative collage poems with one of my classes. We all write for 5 or 10 minutes on the same prompt. Then, we all read aloud our poems. While the kids read, I write down a line or two that strikes me from each of their poems. Then I read aloud the resulting collage poem. The prompt for this one was “What can a poem be?” I love the surprise at the end, when we hear everyone’s words put together. And I love the strange and fresh weirdnesses that come out of stitching their snippets together.

I’m taking music seriously in 2025 and trying to learn how to write songs. I feel like I’m behind the crowd as I’m starting in my 20s and know very little actual music theory. But I just WANT TO. So I guess im gonna. Wish me LUCK xoxo
