I was driving behind a giant armored police vehicle yesterday. A khaki colored behemoth with “POLICE” stenciled across the side. Looking straight out of the gulf war. I thought to myself, “has there ever been a situation in Raleigh that required such a thing? Do we really need to spend our tax money on this?” I decided, no, because I remembered that when I was 18 RPD staked out a public park late at night for multiple nights to catch me ripping a GB. I realized it’s LARPing energy. Those boys in the big truck want the big truck for the same reason I bought a ton of vintage Lacoste and 90s Polish army surplus short-shorts after I watched Call Me By Your Name for the first time. Except it’s a 0% chance I get scared and kill someone with a dusty polo

Carrying openly like this is legal where I live and I don't doubt the dude checks all the boxes, had the necessary background check, law-abiding citizen, he's a good guy with a gun, yada yada yada, and so on, but still! Bringing it to the coffee shop! Why?
It unnerves me because it seems (someone feel free to speak up with a counter perspective) as though the open carrier is doing so to make a statement, assert power, let others know: "Public Service Alert — I could kill you if I wanted to."
Nothing about carrying a gun like that lowers the rhetorical emotional societal temperature. We do want to lower the temperature, right?

this is fun to watch on tik tok most of the time but last night i got to watch it LIVE IN ACTION from my apartment window and let me tell you it was the most entertaining thing i have watched all month. idk if i’d go seeking out crime but if it happens to take place in front of you and you are able to watch the aftermath try to find enjoyment in it

Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try
