i fear i can’t romanticise my way through this one. i’ve done quite a few different hospitality jobs and have never hated one this much. everyone is so anal about everything (it’s a tiny museum cafe) and this one hoe rachel, needs to calm tf down like STOP TELLING ME TO DO THINGS IM CLEARLY ALREADY DOING. just thought i’d add a horrifying fact ab this is that i turned down two other jobs for it

One time I quit a job after just one day. Returns desk at a hardware store. Lady I worked with was such a malignant bitch with disgusting breath. And this very sweet but definitely on the spectrum kid kept on spoiling One Piece for me (I made the mistake of telling him I was reading through it). Hair rock on the instore radio system all the time. Boomers. Boomers like you wouldn’t believe. All coming In to return a screw or a washer or some other small $1.50 thing or another. Terrorists.

choc_orange once upon a time I worked at CVS and I couldn’t do it anymore so I quit by just ghosting them on New Year’s Day where I was the only regular employee scheduled to open alongside my store manager and honestly? Very irresponsible but it felt so good…

choc_orange I just did it again this week in fact with a job I’ve had for five years and a company I’ve been with for about eight years That I have literally always hated lol and I’m going to take a financial hit for a little bit but the peace of mind is worth it. Hang in there if you need this job for the money but sometimes it feels really good to #followyourheart

Closing up shop early and leaving an "overworked and underpaid" sign on the door

When I was 19-20 I worked on Haight Street at a retro revival/rockabilly dress shop. The company had expanded too fast and blew all their money, so my store was closing and what was usually very expensive clothing was on super sale. One day I arrived to work and everyone called out except me. My manager told me to run the (large) store all by myself. At some point the landlord for the building showed up to tell me the company hadn't paid rent in months. The store was so busy due to the sale that I couldn't take a break for hours due to the constant stream of people. The landlord decided she wanted to be "helpful" and was taking customers to the stock room to find clothes that weren't on the floor. It was chaos. When finally there was a moment of the store being empty I locked the door, had a panic attack, and angrily scribbled the "closed early because overworked and underpaid" sign and left. I was fired haha.
