This is my new favourite kind of crochet project. It's great for using up small balls of yarn/scraps and they can be relatively quick projects if you keep them small (the apple one is 17x47, the bow one is 20x20, the swan one is 24x27 stitches) so if you get bored with projects quickly it's a good choice. There are so many different grids you can find I get mine off Pinterest. Since my pieces are very small I think I'm going to sew them all together plus more to create a pillow case, but there are so many other things you can with with this technique like framing them or using this style of colour work in a larger piece like a jumper.

they are so easy and accessible to make. just buy one hook and find some scrappy yarn. you can make them single or multi-coloured! you can make them as small or large as you like! eventually you will have enough to make a scarf or bag or top or blanket! i taught my mum how to crochet granny squares during lockdown (she is the least crafty person ever) and she secretly made me a blanket out of them 🥹

small crochet and knit projects are the perfect mobile craft as it can easily be stowed away into your convenient tote (obviously you’re a tote user if you have this app) and many people find it endearing and will ask about your project. makes tedious waiting moments like uber rides and haircuts a delight

quilting a blanket or a jacket? intimidating. thrifting a 2 hour mini quilting project book and finding over 75 mini patterns to create cute little quilts to potentially turn into totes or mini tapestries to hang in your room? still intimidating but i think we can all agree it's significantly less scary than the first option. i thought it would be much harder than it is but cutting little shapes out of scrap fabric and sewing them on has made me feel like a little kid in art class in elementary school in the best way. and a bonus is i found all the scrap fabric in every color i needed at Seattle ReCreative, a thrift store for craft supplies, for $3!!! i'm currently working on the Pine Tree Retreat pattern!
