After a life as a textbook liberal atheist, I've only recently begun opening up to a spiritual reality, so my insights are nascent and thus rudimentary. However, it seems to me that the physical realm has an inherent value when manifesting spirit, so the first step is alignment of the body, the spirit's true temple. Yoga or a more individualized, meditatively concocted practice (mine is spiral yoga) deafens animal instinct and creates space for a body alignment to begin the alignment of body and mind. Once the mind is freed and starts connecting to the metaphysical, you enter a new paradigm of reality that can be as enlightening or blinding as the strength of your self-awareness will allow. Bro be high as a mf.

I’m no yoga teacher this is just my own personal observation but the chakras happen to correspond almost exactly with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs isn’t that crazy! And with both of them you’re supposed to start at the bottom and work your way to the top because you can’t fully reach the next level without having that more base need fulfilled. The thinking is that chakras can be under active or over active so if there’s an imbalance or blockage in one energy flows too intensely or not at all. I had the realization lately that in all of my time doing yoga since probably like 2017 I’ve only ever gone up as far the heart, save for a few times, and I was usually most focused on the root and sacral chakras; I would often skip the solar plexus and go straight to the heart when I was feeling wounded. I could psychoanalyze myself about what this means but I’ll spare you… this week I’ve been really feeling my sacral, heart, and throat chakras but I noticed today that I’ve had the strongest feelings in my solar plexus chakra so my plan is to explore that tonight. I just think it’s interesting and it dovetails nicely with The Body Keeps the Score. But on a purely physical level working through your chakras is an amazing and effective way to align your spine, release tension, and feel into your body. It’s very rewarding and energizing to do more active chakra flows but I’m honestly in hibernation mode still and I need to chill out so I like to do yin and just passively release

Start with doing yoga as a moving meditation. Yin Yoga or Yoga Nidra might be a very soft introduction to bring your mind & body into a meditative state. Lie down at the end, take your time and start appreciating Shavasana. Start feeling every body part at once by simply putting all your mental energy & thoughts into a specific area of your body. Start with your feet, move on to your knees, your stomach, chest, arms, fingers. End with your head. Start to feel thoughts as clouds passing by. After some tries you find your mind empty, released & at ease. Every time is different. Some times it will feel very easy, on some days you won’t feel it working at all - But still you stopped 5 minutes from doing whatsoever, switched off your brain for a bit. It will help you feel calm on the long run 💎

I know it’s a good meditation or yoga practice when my eyes spontaneously water and I feel a strong sense of relief, letting go of tension. I had the strangest realization that I’ve done yoga for my root, sacral, solar plexus, and heart chakras countless times, but despite knowing that one should run through each chakra from bottom to top like a ladder, I’ve only done yoga for the throat, third eye, and crown a handful of times, if that. Fell asleep AGAIN during this practice (third night in a row!) but during shavasana like a normal person.

So vulnerable, I have to be sincere. European and American art galleries historically are not only promoters of great art, they are creators of markets. That may be where you could shift focus. Your worth is that you are young, eating rat, living a life of passion, filth, messiness, body horror (per my comment on such) unique and unknown to those with money. They crave you, not for your art. That's worthless to them. The art, as photographs per Sontag in my other rec, is simply a receipt that they owned a piece of your lifestyle for a moment. No one who will buy your art will likely give a fuck about your art. Stop seeking those. Find the Glengarry Glen Ross customers seeking life, escape from drudgery, a need to prove something to themselves. Let your art be that for them. Enough bs theory, now for implementation. You won't sell your art, but you can sell the frustration, bloodsweattears, dedication, sacrifice that drips from your post. You can do so by simultaneously reminding yourself you are not creating ART but CREATING art. Your work and worth is not on a canvas. It's not the art. It's in you, the artist.

A model friend/client and I stepped out from dinner for a smoke and were having a tipsy discussion about an issue with her company. Some doorman came up to tell us to move because we were blocking the entrance, which we weren't. I was irked, but my friend guessed he likely stereotyped her being in a lover's quarrel. Irked for a different reason, I called out, "Dude, we're discussing business! She's my boss!" In hindsight, I appreciated how he handled what he mistook as a domestic dispute by creating a false diversion to redirect our attention. Most people get involved in others' drama because they think they know better. Most people don't because they're insecure they're misunderstanding. He was appropriately in between.
