Last week, I tweeted that although I have never seen Severance and will probably never watch it, that I was sure that it was a bad television show. It is something about its naked need for prestige, the amount of celebrities and gushy fake famous tv actors that populate the show. It's not for me. I will never watch it but I know that I don't need to watch it, since the entire premise is a farce.
However, The Pitt is relentless, intense, unabashedly smart, television. Noah Wyle stars as the charismatic Dr. Robby and his crew is full of compelling people. It might remind you of ER, but where ER contains personal lives and romance, The Pitt does not have time for such things. The Pitt is more interested in how stress makes the personal life take a backseat.
One episode featured an incel son, a sickle cell patient that warns people of the wonders of the sickle cell trait, which is prominently in black communities. Another one featured a runaway being treated for a STD, and then a man who punches one of the nurses, an intern who won't listen. Like, it fucking rules. Great television.
