Warner Bros just made a playlist on their YouTube with a bunch of full movies on it. Are they all good? I can’t say for sure, but there are some really unique picks in there and it is super easily accessible/uninterrupted if you've got an adblock on. I recommend Crossing Delancey - a great romcom, and watching it here can be a test run to see if you wanna commit to getting the Criterion release

Curated collections so you don't spend an hour scrolling before you decide what to watch! Find gems like underrated romcom Crossing Delancey about resisting romance with a pickle seller until you realize he's the perfect man.

Which streaming service has the most 80s-90s mainstream movies? I want to love the Criterion Channel, but it’s hard to find things I want to watch. I have a watchlist, but when I browse it I’m thinking, “That sounds good, but I don’t feel like watching it right now”

The world's tough place. There's lots of movies I want to see and because of the dumbest corporate reasons, lots of times they're unavailable or only available to buy on a streaming service. At that point I'd rather just get a blu-ray (s/o walmart dot com and the kino lorber sale...) but if I can't find one, or if it's $50, I'll straight up just see if it's avail to watch on youtube or through the internet archive and a lot of times it is. The quality might not be great, but that's okay. It's important to not get what you want sometimes in life. (Elaine May's A New Leaf, Scorsese's Kundun, Todd Solondz' Happiness, Akira Kuroswa's Dreams, Joseph L. Mankiewicz's Sleuth etc. etc.)

A website with a collection of screengrabs from nearly every movie you could think of, and you can sort by film title, director, cinematographer, year, genre, country, etc. Great for visual references for lookbooks, or just to discover a new film you might be interested in seeing! I've attached one of my favorite stills, a great moment from Chungking Express (Dir. Wong Kar-Wai, 1994).

Just going out and picking up any kind of used physical media (books, CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes) makes the archivist in me happy, like I’m preserving somebody else’s story/ enjoyment of something My personal favorite thing is VHS tapes, I’ve got a decent collection (all thrifted) and they’re usually the cheapest things offered
