Came into this ask to comment just that. Imo the pinnacle of Ghibli Studio's style, with beautiful technically rendered planes, strong female characters oooofff and a pig who has my heart. 💖😆

one of the more slept on works of Miyazaki-sama. not only is the titular character the original “chill guy” meme incarnate, he’s a beast in the skies and fighting for what’s good in the world.

a melancholic comedy about a pilot cursed to be pig
of all of miyazaki's anti-war movies, this one is pretty striking, especially given the outward political turmoil going on concurrently at the time of the film's development. it started simply as a lighthearted comedy and became something with such a somber undercurrent
also obviously the flying scenes are great
