Fascinating bc it’s unclear why they were on this. Multiple cultures were doing this. What did they know

It’s crazy that different ancient peoples, all over the globe, built the same shaped structures, without machinery or whatever and they perfectly align with the stars and stuff.

my archaeology prof has talked about it in class, mostly because it reinforces very colonial ideas that certain populations could not have built these massive structures because they ‘weren’t advanced enough’ in the eyes of white europeans. graham hancock is part of a group of pseudoarchaeologists known as ‘new agers’ who believe that there was a lost civilization that was incredibly advanced, and he (and other new age believers) have a nasty habit of ignoring certain evidence and only investigating things that support their viewpoint. this isn’t a new thing, many archaeologists and anthropologists have experienced these people for many years (there’s a great new yorker article that i’ve linked about the sphinx that talks about them), but it’s dangerous to fully believe what people like that say. it’s not based on all the facts and sometimes pushes very anti-indigenous viewpoints.

I’ve been listening to long YouTube video essays about Mayan and Aztec culture this week and I think we should all indulge interests we’ve had since we were kids! Honestly all North and South American indigenous cultures created such cool things and have such rich history while still thriving today! you should probably watch some video essays on them and learn I think or let me know which one you like to learn about. For me I’m most interested in the aforementioned nations and ancient China.

Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try
