it was my great-aunt's, and she gave it to my mum, who gave it to me when i was 12. i have never willingly taken it off, it has broken a few times, but i have retrieved all the shells and strung it back together. i feel naked without it, and you can see it in every single picture i've taken since i was young. it's funny to tell people how long i've had it on for.

I have a bunch of fun charms (mobile charm from a temple recently, Riddler coin in my wallet, a prosperity bead bracelet from an Indigenous artist in Taiwan, etc. etc.) but the most permanent one is the silver pendant my mum made me wear as a child and I literally never take it off except for those chest x-rays, it feels very odd to do so, I feel kind of naked without it.

I have worn both since childhood as protective jewelry. I had to go a few months without the coin bracelet though because I forgot it at the jeweller's when it was being repaired and I flew out the country–cue the worst few months of my life yet. I don't take the pendant off ever, unless I need to do an X-ray.
