I was absolutely gobsmacked by this honor and think it’s so funny to “flex”
my high school mascot was a tiger and we had a giant statue of one in front of the building and the boy winner got to sit on top of it for the yearbook photo even though it was my idea and it still irks me a tiny bit to to this day (I was definitely funnier than him and #feminism)

i’ve seen a massive uptick of posts where teachers are talking about how awful and cruel their students are and it turns out they teach at a middle school. like yeah. of course theyre evil. theyre 13. being evil is kind of a requirement for that age. there seems to be a cultural amnesia as to what it was like to be young and trying to figure stuff out. if anything, i feel like kids these days are more understanding of diversity and any generation before them. a current middle schooler wouldn’t call me a queer, they’d make a much more cutting and hurtful remark about my appearance #progress also if your first reaction to your students misbehaving is to kvetch about it on reddit, maybe find a different line of work

One of the best influences a friend had on me is to make a Pinterest board of my own photos. Unlike apps like Instagram, a personal board allows you to fully fill it with yourself unabashedly. Mine works as a digital diary of everywhere I’ve been or seen. But, you could fill it with recipes, outfits, photography, anything. In time you will have created a collage reflective of yourself.
