Thoughtful, silly, and sweet video. I like the take away: we've always been the one's in control so enforce the boundaries you need on apps and social media.

We live in complex times regarding our relationship to technology, we have already reached a tipping point regarding the geographical, ecological, and social impact of technology, thus looking for alternatives regarding these technologies, both the hardwares that rely on slavey and mining, and the softwares, mostly controled by oligarchies that drive an economy based on spoliation, and have clear right wing political inerests, is not only an interesting personal choince, but a political commitment as well. However, it is important to understand that these are tools, and sometimes we veer towards a fetishistic aproach toward this topic. Physical media is pretty cool, but having a nice HD with movies you downloaded can be as good as having a collection of dvds, or what seems more concious regularly fixing your smartphone or this wave of buying "dumb" phones. The way you interact and use these technologies is truly what matters. Why should you use your phone less if your goal is to keep in contact with important people in your life? Using your phone for 3 hours because you have been chatting with friends is different than using it the same time doomscrooling. You can use your messaging app, and block apps or straight up delete apps that you believe are unhealthy for you. Phone time is a quantative number, but you can have a qualitative approach to it. I apologize if this sounded a bit ranty. I hope you can keep in touch wth your dear friends through many ways, and if the phone is accesiable to all of you, I would say why not? I reccomend using Signal as a messaging app hihi

-Don’t get wifi on planes -Look up from phone on bridges/around bodies of water -Headphones actively taken out when there are buskers, street performers, preachers -Phone fully powered off during movies -Phone stays in pocket at concert -Exchange phone number with a crush instead of Instagram  -No more than 2 cameras on a person blowing their bday candles out -If you have find my friends only use it for emergencies No problem with cyborg behavior tho if you’re owning it

Here it is, folks! Volume I of what could very well be a continuous project. Thank you so much to everyone that submitted - I smiled the entire time I was putting this together. It's best listened to with headphones ☺️ Liner Notes: This collection of field recordings is a collaborative effort with users of PI.FYI, each of which recorded their own pieces. It features audio from all over the world and exhibits eclectic moments from London Underground commutes to cuckoo bird calls in Dhaka to the sounds of a century-old American diner. Online communities like PI.FYI often represent a diverse set of people, places, and experiences, but together, the submissions form a living collage that highlights the commonalities of modern life - a unifying message for such a tumultuous time. The first track features all of the sounds played at once in an attempt to create an audio snapshot of an online community but in their offline lives. The individual recordings are unedited except for minor gain and compression adjustments for consistency across the collection.
